Information about the Venue

The course will take place at the Hospital Central de la Cruz Roja in Madrid/Spain.


Aims of the Course: Main Objective:

To ensure sufficient skills by providing detailed knowledge and practical training in a clinical setting to initiate the use of sclerotherapy and to improve pelvic vein disease diagnosis.

Detailed objectives:

The learner should be able to:

  • Understand the decision-making process leading to sclerotherapy
  • Choose the appropriate investigations in a patient
  • Select the correct patient/limb for sclerotherapy based on clinical data and duplex ultrasound (DUS)
  • Decide on the appropriate technique of sclerotherapy
  • Prevent and manage complications
  • Plan an appropriate follow-up of the patient and plan the next session of sclerotherapy if appropriate
  • Initiate the use of sclerotherapy in his/her institution
  • Improve skills in transabdominal and transvaginal DUS
  • Improve knowledge about transvaginal ultrasound scanning and CT venography for pelvic vein disease.


Note! The learner will be given a certificate of attendance of the course, which in no way ensures or certifies any competence to perform the procedure. EVF does not have that authority.

Pre-requisites for learners to attend EVF HOW Plus:

The learner should have:

  1. Preferably attended the EVF HOW
  2. Sufficient basic skills in DUS in patients with chronic venous disease
  3. Sufficient basic endovascular skills such as experience of DUS-guided puncture, handling catheters, intra-interventional use of DUS etc.

Maximum number of participants: 16, first come, first served

Workshop in the clinic: During the workshop the 16 learners will be distributed in three groups assisted by two experts. Live Cases will be treated in 3 offices, each office team consisting of 4 learners and 2 experts.

Course Fee: 500 Euros: The course fee includes Hospital access, refreshments, lunch and dinner on Thursday evening.

Travel to and from Madrid and accommodation are not included.

The instruction will take place at Hospital Central Cruz Roja, Avenida de la Reina Victoria 22-24 28003 Madrid/Spain.

Hospital Cruz Roja is located in the center of Madrid, with good bus and subway connections. It only takes 20 minutes to reach the International Airport of Barajas or the Central Train Station by subway.
